Life is a Passing Through

Animals and humans alike, we all share this space and time borrowed from God. And I think Tyler has used his life to the max. You might think that I haven't gotten over his passing but paying tribute to this great pet is never enough for me because his life as a cat and that of yours and mine are indeed very similar. It is just that Tyler passed earlier to provide us this valuable lesson:

The greatest treasure we can have is our relationships.

Indeed, it is true. We were borne on this life with nothing. We may have accumulated some earthly treasures and managed our own affairs well. But when God calls, all these will be left behind and we will be taken with nothing of the wealth we have accumulated. But it is much better to manage our own affairs well than waste our time in vices and worldly desires.

What Tyler has taught us is that relationships create memories. Memories are buried deep in the minds and hearts of men ( or even animals ). When we pass away, we carry these memories with us and those whose lives we have touched will also treasure these memories.

Why did I see these life's lesson from my pet cat?

Tyler was a sociable animal. I didn't know how he did it but it was easy for him to befriend stray cats or even our neighbors' Russian Husky (his name is Max) and Golden Retriever (his name is Fulgoso). How he got along with dogs was a mystery to me. Some time I would think that perhaps Tyler was a dog who looked like a cat. Back in our old apartment, Tyler even organized his own "Tropang Cats" ( Cat Troupe ) in our community. His troupe would meet up in a certain place in our village every 5:00pm, adjourn at 6:00pm and they would meet up again at 8:00pm until midnight. When Tyler got sick and was not able to go out, his troupe of 4 other cats would stand outside our gate as if calling him.

Tyler also displayed so much affection to his nieces and nephews and even those kittens we have adopted. I have told you about Tyra. He was Tyler's apprentice. She's 7 months old now. She was with Tyler for 4 months before he passed away but she definitely got Tyler's behavior. She misses him a lot but we also got our neighbor's cat Thomas ( Remember Thomas in Mok's blog post?) to comfort her. Thomas would drop by our house and eat and sleep like our own since Tyler passed away.

Tyra by the Cookie Counter. She got those from the Halloween Trick or Treat.
No gifts under the Christmas Tree. But can you see the black cat?
Thomas, taking a nap by our sofa.

If these animals could talk, they highly regard Tyler, I bet. They have good memories of him. And for us his human pet owner/s, also treasure his good times with us. Etched deep in our memory banks.

So touch someone today whether it is a new friend or a relative or a colleague whom you haven't spoken or written to for some time. Even enemies. Create new friendships, rekindle old ones and add memories to your memory bank and theirs.
