And I think Tyler has used his life to the max. You might think that I haven't gotten over his passing but paying tribute to this great pet is never enough for me because his life as a cat and that of yours and mine are indeed very similar. It is just that Tyler passed earlier to provide us this valuable lesson:

The greatest treasure we can have is our relationships.

Indeed, it is true. We were borne on this life with nothing. We may have accumulated some earthly treasures and managed our own affairs well. But when God calls, all these will be left behind and we will be taken with nothing of the wealth we have accumulated. But it is much better to manage our own affairs well than waste our time in vices and worldly desires.

What Tyler has taught us is that relationships create memories. Memories are buried deep in the minds and hearts of men ( or even animals ). When we pass away, we carry these memories with us and those whose lives we have touched will also treasure these memories.

Why did I see these life's lesson from my pet cat?

Tyler was a sociable animal. I didn't know how he did it but it was easy for him to befriend stray cats or even our neighbors' Russian Husky (his name is Max) and Golden Retriever (his name is Fulgoso). How he got along with dogs was a mystery to me. Some time I would think that perhaps Tyler was a dog who looked like a cat. Back in our old apartment, Tyler even organized his own "Tropang Cats" ( Cat Troupe ) in our community. His troupe would meet up in a certain place in our village every 5:00pm, adjourn at 6:00pm and they would meet up again at 8:00pm until midnight. When Tyler got sick and was not able to go out, his troupe of 4 other cats would stand outside our gate as if calling him.

Tyler also displayed so much affection to his nieces and nephews and even those kittens we have adopted. I have told you about Tyra. He was Tyler's apprentice. She's 7 months old now. She was with Tyler for 4 months before he passed away but she definitely got Tyler's behavior. She misses him a lot but we also got our neighbor's cat Thomas ( Remember Thomas in Mok's blog post?) to comfort her. Thomas would drop by our house and eat and sleep like our own since Tyler passed away.

If these animals could talk, they highly regard Tyler, I bet. They have good memories of him. And for us his human pet owner/s, also treasure his good times with us. Etched deep in our memory banks.

So touch someone today whether it is a new friend or a relative or a colleague whom you haven't spoken or written to for some time. Even enemies. Create new friendships, rekindle old ones and add memories to your memory bank and theirs.
He will just view the world from outside and I believe that he is watching over us.
Tyler passed away last November 10, 2010 and his remains are with us. Here's a pic of his urn and other remnants.
Tyler, the gentlest and greatest pet I have ever had.
A cat and yet when you look in through his eyes, a soul.
Tyler...
Greets when you come home,
Meows whenever you call,
Says please when he wants a treat,
Says thank you after eating it.
Rushes into your aid when you cry,
Stands beside you 'til tears ran dry.
Scrutinizes visitors, friends and strangers alike,
Approves of them after a while.
Comes to your feet and brushes around,
Gives a relaxing, purring sound.
Poses when the camera is set
A model cat with some antics, you bet.
Sticks out his tongue or gives a wink
When the bulb flashes, not even a blink.

His remains was cremated and was put on a lovely urn. His ashes and spirit remains in our home's blessed altar.

Tyler has served as well, gave us a lot of memories with his gentle, funny antics.
May his spirit rest in peace.
To humans, it is already equivalent to a 60 year old adult. Right now, Tyra and myself are so lonely as Tyler has been confined in the Animal House Hospital for two days already. Even Thomas is here to offer support.

As per the vet, Tyler is suffering from renal dysfunction. His Creatinine testing showed high levels of toxicity in the kidney. For a human, it is an illness that will require dialysis. Unfortunately, it is not available to pets like us.

According to our doctor, there is a small probability of survival for Tyler. Such metabolic disorder is caused by old age and too much salt in our diet. And such illness is what mostly ends the 9 lives of a cat aside from the more common respiratory attack.

Tyler is there, still struggling to survive. We really hope that he can still borrow a 10th life. Tyra's ( Tyler's apprentice ) training is still incomplete. And I haven't really got the chance to show my love for him as a brother just because I'm not that showy.

Help us pray for Tyler's recovery. Pet Heaven is calling him, but I do hope that it is just a passing through. Tyler can still have another ten years ( = 1 year in cat's age ).

We definitely miss him already.

It's long been awaited.

Part 2: All About Cat Food

Like any other beings on this lively planet, food is a core need for cats. A balanced diet is necessary (just like humans). So meat and veggies must be given on equal portions. Whenever, wherever...a fresh clean water for drinking must always be available.

Is there an eating pattern to be followed like breakfast, lunch and dinner? Not necessarily. Cats should be fed only twice in a day. This will allow saliva to cleanse the mouth. If there is constant access to food, the cat will be prone to dental problems like the formation of tartar or gingivitis aside from causing your cat to be overweight.

Establish this eating pattern by pre-conditioning your cat to eat at a sound of a bell or other means of sounds which will make it recognize that it is time to eat. In my case, I would tap their plastic eating bowls a number of times while calling their names. This means, that they have to come over and food is about to be served. My cats would come running to me wherever they are coming from.

To begin with, start to ring a bell or your chosen sound media before each meal, so the cat associates the sound with the feeding. Take note that when the cat gets used to it, the sound of the bell (sound of feeding) is more important that the person who rings it. The most suitable feeding time is 7:00 in the morning and 7:00 in the evening. However, if you are alone at home or you have work to do, you can set up the most convenient time for you as long as the feeding is done every 12 hours.

What about when kitty starts whining asking for food in between "official" meal times? Discourage it by not giving in. Otherwise, the correct eating pattern (twice a day) will not be followed. If you give in to your cat's whining, kitty will form this habit of begging/ asking for food at no definite time.

And you thought that cats eat only rats? False. Cats play with their prey until it dies out of exhaustion or suffocation especially when the prey is taken by the throat. But as per veterinarians, rat meat is sometimes good for the cats' digestive system. So you should not discourage your pet cat to hunt.

Cats love to munch on fresh greens from time to time. Grow pots of grass and catnip for them. Catnip is an aromatic herb of the mint family. It contains some oils to which cats are strongly attracted. Its scientific name is nepeta cataria which has spikes of small purple-dotted flowers. Catnip has been used as a seasoning and medicinal tea for colds and fever. Because it is so attractive for cats, catnip are used as stuffing to cat toys.

Catnip (nepeta cataria)

Like dogs, chocolates are also toxic for cats. Although the effect of chocolate on cats are less deadly than the dogs, it is better to sure. Keep those away from kitty.

Cats are designed to eat raw meat, but cooking destroy disease-producing organisms like salmonella. So in the same way that you would cook food for your own use, the same should be cooked for kitty, too.

Cat foods are available from the pet stores and pet supplies shops. With too many brands to choose from you will never know which ones are best for your cats. Always remember to check the label for the ingredients. Common are wheat, ground corn, corn gluten, and rice. Check for the minerals too as these are important to a cat's diet. Calcium, phosphorus, sodium, pottasium and magnesium. However, among these minerals, see to it that the phosphorus level is within normal proportion with the other minerals. Some cat food manufacturers would increase phosphorus content so that the cat's urination and bowel movement will be reduced. However, doing this would increase the risk of your pet having kidney-related illnesses.

Never give kitty a piece of fried chicken. The chicken bones are deadly for both dogs and cats as its edges are small and sharp which may hurt the animal's digestive tract.

Lastly, feeding Kitty requires common sense. A nutritionally complete and balanced diet maintains a cat's proper weight and will keep it happy and healthy.

Here's a worthy cause that I truly support (I'm sure my owner, too)

Homeless, Not Worthless

Here's an ad campaign by PURINA and PAWS. It was launched months ago, but the message should remain in every animal-lovers' heart. But how about those who are not?

If there are even street children for which most can not care less, what more for stray animals like dogs and cats?

Each living being on earth, even the worms and caterpillars have the right to exist decently. I, myself don't step on them when I walk along the garden path. I even say hello to the busy ants. I wish that someday, the world will be free of strays and every being has a place called home.

I was glad that PAWS and other organizations like CARA support this cause. Multinational companies like Purina sponsors these movements. So every time you see an animal that needs help, you know the numbers to dial or send SMS to.

I also wish that someday, there will be a branch in our police force that will handle animal rescues. Why not? There is already the Animal Welfare Act in almost all countries around the globe ( Republic Act 8485 for Philippines ). Having the police force execute this law will surely strengthen our cause by preventing abuse and illegal trade of animals (endangered or not).

I wish that all beings will become semi-vegan. Veggies are good for the health of humans and animals alike. I myself eat fish (mackerel and salmon, yum!), but there's plenty of them on the sea and God created them to nourish the bodies of those who walk on earth (including me!). Eat veggies. I do. Mok, Thomas and my apprentice Tyson do. I think every pet owner should train their pets to eat their veggies. My favorites are potatoes, broccoli, cauli flower, squash, beans, taro and from time to time, some grass that grow in the garden. I still can't believe how the old Brontosaurus in the Jurassic Era grew so big when all it ate were plants. And even Cowell the Cow, at the other side of our village's perimeter fence. He got so big eating nothing but grass.

I hope these 3 wishes would have some genie for me to wish to. When it does come true, the world will be such a big home for all.

Some time along your way, a cat would rub her face against your legs. This is an affectionate way for a cat to mark you with her scent. If you do experience this, you will have to face it. You are owned and your are now a territory.

History and Superstitions

Does a black cat crossing your path a sign of bad luck to come? Does a cat's gentle stroke on your neck would remove whatever is obstructing/ blocking your throat that cause choking? Do cats really protect humans from harm of evil spiritual forces?

Like other animals, cats have their share of myths and legends handed over from generation to generation. This is true because the first cats had roamed the earth 40 million years ago.The earliest civilization was Egypt and this was when cats were first domesticated. Early Egyptians had carried their reverence for the cat even further by having a god called Bastet, which has a body of a woman and the head of a cat. In her left hand, she held an amulet with the ''all-seeing eye''.

Cats were highly regarded in ancient times because they had helped the early civilizations in their farms and barnyards protecting their crops from vermin, snakes, roaches and other pests.

So, if you see a black cat on your path don't shoo it away. Remember, that you yourself is the master of your fate and the captain of your soul. There are no such things as bad luck. A Heimlich Maneuver is the answer to throat blockage which causes choking or suffocation, not a cat's touch!
Cats and Allergies

It would be very frustrating if you love cats ( or other furry pets ) if you have allergies! Allergic reactions are hindrances to bonding with your pets but this should not prevent you from having a pet cat.

Allergic reaction is not caused by the cat hair itself, as mostly believed. The allergen is a protein found in the saliva of cats and dogs. This allergen attaches itself to hair when the cat licks or scratches itself. These 2 activities introduce allergenic saliva and dander to the air. Keep the cat from scratching and licking by keeping it free of fleas and worms. Keeping the cat free of parasites can lessen the allergic reactions to humans.

Cats groom themselves. They are particularly obsessed with cleanliness. This is one trait that you will really like about having one for a pet. However, grooming activities also raise dander to the air and scatter cat hairs on your furniture. To further address this, you must:

Regularly brush your cat's coat. Do this twice or thrice a week in a separate room (not your bedroom!) or outside the house (like the car garage, lanai or balcony).

Mop your floors with a damp mop everyday after a floor sweep.

Pick up hairs from your furniture (especially the sofa) by using a damp chamois or slip in a rubber glove and sweep the surfaces of the furniture. Never use a vacuum cleaner. It spreads the hair even more and other allergens such as dust and mites up in the air.

Remove lint and cat hair from your sheets or even your shirt by using a lint remover. It is recommended to use 3M Lint Roller. It is sure to be your most-loved tool.

If the room has air conditioning, make sure you are using HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters. Like any other equipment, make sure the air-conditioner is regularly cleaned and maintained or else it will just scatter allergens, too.

But there is no cure-all to allergies. Sufferers are usually allergic to many other allergens as well. Remove other sources from your surroundings like house dust, mites, and pollens and it will be a lot easier to live with your cat ~ someone you don't want to remove at all.

Cat Behaviors

Cats use their sense of smell as identification. The best way to introduce yourself to a cat is to let it sniff your hair.

An average cat dozes 18 to 19 hours a day, although not in one long stretch. That's the reason why it is called ''cat naps''. These are short naps but are done repeatedly throughout the day. Cats usually naps on higher places like above your cabinetry or refrigerator tops but you can train your pet to nap on pet mats placed on a floor a way from the household hustle and bustle. Cats need some quiet place to sleep, too.

Punishment for bad behavior only destroys a cat's trust in its owner. An effective way of reprimanding or correcting a bad behavior is to literally catch your cat in the act. Clap your hands and command STOP or NO in a strong voice.

Are they playing or fighting? Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference. Play is usually quiet and does not result to any injury. Cooperative playmates lie on their back with all four legs extended upward. Cats also do this with humans. If they do, then it is a good time to play with your pet.

Cats always like to stay neat and clean. If your pet cat shows no interest in cleaning or grooming itself, have it examined by a veterinarian. The cat may be ill.

To develop good toilet habits, use sand in your litter box. There are branded ones available in the pet shops but that would be bit costly because they contain some anti-odor chemicals. The cheapest and most natural is to use fine sand mixed with baking soda. The ratio of baking soda to fine sand should be 1:4. Clean their litter box daily or they will do their stuff somewhere else. Cats usually don't use the litter box if it is left uncleaned even for a day. Clean by scooping the hardened stools and flush them in the toilet. If you have a compost at the backyard, put it there. Cat stool are good fertilizers when submitted to composting process.

Did you know that when you decided to have a cat for a pet, it is actually the cat who is adopting you? Your life will take on a different glow. Whether your cat is an inquisitive companion, a playful rascal or an independent diva, your life will be really changed.

Cats are never predictable. They choose to see the world in their own unique ways.

Here are some tips and advices which will enlighten you in every step of the way in preparing yourself for new pet cat. This will give you insights into the world a cat sees.

The first question you have in mind is, "Why a cat?" Most people would prefer dogs or birds or fish. And for some queer others would choose a snake, a spider, a gecko, and some other reptiles. Well, a cat can also give the loyalty of a dog or the colorful and playful gaze of a bird or fish. A plus factor, is that, a cat is very self-sufficient and independent. You need not worry about their food or drink if you will be out of town for several days. You need not take them to bath so often because they know how to themselves. They won't catch ticks like those of the dogs. Most of all, cats protects humans from those snakes and rats ( Did you know? If it is a fight between snakes and cats, the cats always win except of course if the snake is an Anaconda. However, most fights between an Anaconda and a wild or domesticated cat, the cat can usually run away fast ).

Here is my 8-part series that will follow:
There's a joke that's been going around amongst animal lovers. It goes:

What is the difference between a dog and a cat?
Answer: The dog says to his owner: you love me, you feed me, you pet me...you must be God. On the other hand, the cat says to his owner: you love me, you feed me, you pet me...I must be God.

We'll it is quite true. I am a house cat and I consider myself blessed for all the things in a cat's life can have.

Sometimes, I reflect on my remaining 8 lives ( Yes, I was near-death before when I swallowed a spoonful of bleach )...What if I was homeless? What if I was left alone in the old apartment where my owners used to live? What if I was abandoned? What if I get really sick? Will I use up my remaining lives?

So I have gathered and humbled myself, and I hope these words will touch humans and animals alike:

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">Today upon the Animal House*** I saw,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">A lovely dog with golden hair
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">I envied her – she seemed so gay
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">And oh, I wished I have the same hair

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">When suddenly she rose to leave
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">I saw her hobble down the aisle.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">She had only fore legs and used a support hind,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">But as she passed, a smile.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">Oh God, forgive me when I whine;
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">I have four feet – the world is mine!

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">And when my owner and I stopped by the pet supplies to buy some treats,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">The lad who served us had such a charm;
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">Beside him a tom cat, resting by the counter,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">Its manner was so kind and warm.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">I said to him, “Meow, it’s nice to deal with your lad and you,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">such courtesy I seldom find”,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">Tom cat says, “Meow, thank you!”
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">And I saw that he was partially blind.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">Oh, God, forgive me when I whine;
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">I have two sharp eyes – the world is mine!

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">Then, walking down further towards the vet clinic,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">I saw a bunny with eyes of blue,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">He stood and watched the other animals play;
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">It seemed he knew not what to do.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">I stopped a moment, then I said,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">“Meow, why don’t you join the others, dear?”
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">He looked ahead without a word,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">And then I knew; his one ear cut-off, he poorly hears.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">Oh God, forgive me when I whine.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">I have two ears – the world is mine!
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">With feet to take me where I want to go,
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">With eyes to see the sunrise and sunset’s glow.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">With ears to hear what I should know.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">I’m blessed indeed. The world is mine!!
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: x-small;">Oh God, forgive me when I whine.
They just moved in a few weeks ago. Coming as far away as Manila, Thomas now has a permanent house in this nice new suburban village. I can say that it is no ordinary house. It is a mansion. Any cat who would pass by Thomas' home and see Thomas by the stairs at their foyer would say that he is probably a spoiled brat ( or cat ).

I came to know him accidentally. One afternoon, as I was having a stroll by myself at the basketball courtside I saw a bird flying along and I went after it, not realizing that I was already two blocks away from my own house ( actually, my owner's but I'm his pet, so I'm a part-owner ). I came to a fence, encircling a mansion.

Thomas was outside the fenced mansion, his owner, a young lady of around 15 years old was calling him. "Tommy, Tommy, where are you?"

So I approached him and told him to respond to his young lady owner. But he would not.

He said he was lucky to get out. He had been lonely in there. A huge mansion with so many rooms that he found it so confusing where his young lady is. He said she was at times at the family room, most of the time at study/ library or to her bedroom. But most of the time she is not at home. She goes to school like an office worker does...from dawn till dusk.

Thomas said he found the white fences very unwelcoming. He felt caged with no other cats or animals to mingle with. He said he was glad we met. And so, i thought he was a brat, but not at all. This new cat on the block just want to have friends. I introduced him to Tyler and they instantly became bros. They hang around everyday.

Thomas never came home, he is always at the the village club house, whether it rain or shine. At meal times, he would eat with us. My owner would make meals fit for three. Tyler and I set aside a portion for him. After we are done eating, we go out and let Thomas eat. I just sit around while Tyler engage him in the day's happenings.

At weekends when there are no classes in schools, we usually hear Thomas' young lady owner calling him. She would carry Thomas back to her mansion but Thomas would always find a way to get out after he has been fully fed. He hated that white fence but now he has learned how to jump over it.

And so I wonder, why would people build walls or fences? Our village homeowners' association would limit it to low picket fences and prohibit high-walled ones. I abhor it: be it made of wood, concrete or iron... be it high or low. I feel that it hinders formation of new relationships amongst neighbors.

I think people are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges.

I was so glad I'm a cat. I can build an improvised bridge or jump over fences and be with my friends.

My owner is in the house the whole day! So I get to roam around the village with Mok and him. He is either walking with us or he rides the bike. We do that twice on Sundays: in the morning before breakfast and in the late afternoon. How I wish that bike has a basket big enough so Mok and I can ride with him and feel the wind touch our whiskers as we tread up the hilly part of the village. I imagine how going down the hill would scare me.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The times in between breakfast and late afternoon are spent for sleeping. On the master's bed! Lazy Sundays are the best time for my owner to recover from his daily grind of waking up early and returning late from work. So, we go up. Listen to some soothing music on the iPod dock, purr a lot and fall asleep. Sometimes I dream of riding with him in the bike :-) -- Tyler
I could have refused that name during the time our Momma gave birth to me, but then, my owner just loved the name. And so I have learned to love myself with that name.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Since I was a kitten and up to now, I would spend 70% of my day sleeping, 10% eating and 20% just playing and fooling around with my brother Tyler or walking around the village clubhouse or basketball court with my owner. Like humans, cats also have dreams during their sleep. When we do REM (Rapid Eye Movement), it means we are in a deep sleep and perhaps dreaming of eating salmon or catching butterflies in the garden. Sleep is important for physical well-being. But unlike cats, humans should spend only 33% of their day for sleep. The other 77% should be spent wide-awake eating food to nourish their body; feeding their minds to make plans, execute them, savor their achievement and share with others; nurturing their heart and soul to spend time petting their cats :-)

Anyway, here's a little poem I would like to share with you. It is about more than sleeping...it is about making dreams come true.

Dreams Are Not Reality

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Dreams are not reality;
Because they are only made up.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Dreams are just fantasies;
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Made by troubled minds.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Dreams are not reality;
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Because they don’t come true.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Dreams don’t bring you ecstacy,
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Even if you dream the whole year through.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Dreams are not reality;
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">They are just imaginations,
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Dreams make you happy temporarily,
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">They are one’s loneliness’ companion.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Dreams are not reality;
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Indeed, the great thinkers say,
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">“The best way to make dreams into reality,
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">is to WAKE UP and MOVE TODAY.”think-tank-thoughts.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12130756921077492742noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6459744819715337508.post-33597216358711381272010-08-05T04:08:00.000-07:002014-05-15T02:11:57.464-07:00Never Confuse having a Career with having a Life

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">Can you work and relax at the same time? Yes! By doing what you love to do and getting paid for it!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">My name is Tyler. I'm a domestic short-hair cat breed. Unlike humans, cats don't go to offices to work and get paid. But hey, I need to do something to feed by hungry stomach. Well, I'm a pet cat. My owner is my employer. I consider it "my job" waiting on him everyday at the door of the bedroom and "meowww" my lungs out until he wakes or he will get late at work. At night, I make sure I'm there at the car garage waiting for his return. And give him my best purring act. Do you know that cat purring is relaxing to humans? I give him my cutest look I can ever manage. In a hard day's work, my owner needs some time to chill. And I provide that. In return, he would give me a nice plate of Friskies with some rice and mackerel in oil plus a fresh water bowl to drink after eating. Indeed, a fine dining for me.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">This is my daily routine, my daily job. But you know what? It may sound ridiculous to humans, but I love every minute of what I do. And I get "paid" for it.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">And since I love my job, I do some "extra" other things that my owner would appreciate. Like keeping myself clean without any boogeys on my nose or in the corners of my eyes. I keep my ears free of mites. I use my sand toilet properly, covering my poops with sand layered enough not to let a single molecule escape that would pollute the air. That's what I call initiative.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">But work is work. I also get tired. Someday, when I retire, there will be no one to give my owner that relaxing purr. So, from the bunch of little kittens we have at home, I have trained one to be like me. His name is Tyson. A naughty black kit which my owner adopted a month ago.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">So the secret to having a career and a life? Love what you do and make a succession plan. Delegate to your apprentice. It is good training for them.
