Paw Prints on my Heart

A domestic short-hair breed cat. Lived his life in full. Born July 2004, died of renal failure in Nov 2010.

Tyler, the gentlest and greatest pet I have ever had.
A cat and yet when you look in through his eyes, a soul.

Tyler...
Greets when you come home,
Meows whenever you call,
Says please when he wants a treat,
Says thank you after eating it.
Rushes into your aid when you cry,
Stands beside you 'til tears ran dry.
Scrutinizes visitors, friends and strangers alike,
Approves of them after a while.
Comes to your feet and brushes around,
Gives a relaxing, purring sound.
Poses when the camera is set
A model cat with some antics, you bet.
Sticks out his tongue or gives a wink
When the bulb flashes, not even a blink.

Tyler's Call from Pet Heaven

Tyler is already 6 years old. To humans, it is already equivalent to a 60 year old adult. Right now, Tyra and myself are so lonely as Tyler has been confined in the Animal House Hospital for two days already. Even Thomas is here to offer support.

As per the vet, Tyler is suffering from renal dysfunction. His Creatinine testing showed high levels of toxicity in the kidney. For a human, it is an illness that will require dialysis. Unfortunately, it is not available to pets like us.

According to our doctor, there is a small probability of survival for Tyler. Such metabolic disorder is caused by old age and too much salt in our diet. And such illness is what mostly ends the 9 lives of a cat aside from the more common respiratory attack.

Tyler is there, still struggling to survive. We really hope that he can still borrow a 10th life. Tyra's ( Tyler's apprentice ) training is still incomplete. And I haven't really got the chance to show my love for him as a brother just because I'm not that showy.

Help us pray for Tyler's recovery. Pet Heaven is calling him, but I do hope that it is just a passing through. Tyler can still have another ten years ( = 1 year in cat's age ).

We definitely miss him already.

8 Things You Must Know When Having a Cat for a Pet - Part 2

Here's Part 2 of my e-book on taking care of a pet cat. It's long been awaited.

Part 2: All About Cat Food

Like any other beings on this lively planet, food is a core need for cats. A balanced diet is necessary (just like humans). So meat and veggies must be given on equal portions. Whenever, wherever...a fresh clean water for drinking must always be available.

Is there an eating pattern to be followed like breakfast, lunch and dinner? Not necessarily. Cats should be fed only twice in a day. This will allow saliva to cleanse the mouth. If there is constant access to food, the cat will be prone to dental problems like the formation of tartar or gingivitis aside from causing your cat to be overweight.

3 Wishes a Cat Can Wish For Other Animals

Let's take a break from the e-book that my owner is writing about adopting a pet cat. Here's a worthy cause that I truly support (I'm sure my owner, too)

Homeless, Not Worthless

Here's an ad campaign by PURINA and PAWS. It was launched months ago, but the message should remain in every animal-lovers' heart. But how about those who are not?

If there are even street children for which most can not care less, what more for stray animals like dogs and cats?

Each living being on earth, even the worms and caterpillars have the right to exist decently. I, myself don't step on them when I walk along the garden path. I even say hello to the busy ants. I wish that someday, the world will be free of strays and every being has a place called home.

8 Things You Must Know When Having a Cat for a Pet - Part 1

Part 1: Being Adopted by a Cat

Some time along your way, a cat would rub her face against your legs. This is an affectionate way for a cat to mark you with her scent. If you do experience this, you will have to face it. You are owned and your are now a territory.

History and Superstitions

Does a black cat crossing your path a sign of bad luck to come? Does a cat's gentle stroke on your neck would remove whatever is obstructing/ blocking your throat that cause choking? Do cats really protect humans from harm of evil spiritual forces?

8 Things You Must Know When Having a Cat for a Pet - Introduction

Welcome to the wonderful world of cats!

Did you know that when you decided to have a cat for a pet, it is actually the cat who is adopting you? Your life will take on a different glow. Whether your cat is an inquisitive companion, a playful rascal or an independent diva, your life will be really changed.

The World is Mine!

I have the tendencies to become conceited at some times, being the cat that I am. There's a joke that's been going around amongst animal lovers. It goes:

What is the difference between a dog and a cat?
Answer: The dog says to his owner: you love me, you feed me, you pet me...you must be God. On the other hand, the cat says to his owner: you love me, you feed me, you pet me...I must be God.

Why Thomas is Away from Home

Thomas is our neighbor's pet cat. They just moved in a few weeks ago. Coming as far away as Manila, Thomas now has a permanent house in this nice new suburban village. I can say that it is no ordinary house. It is a mansion. Any cat who would pass by Thomas' home and see Thomas by the stairs at their foyer would say that he is probably a spoiled brat ( or cat ).

Bonding Time

Weekends are really great. My owner is in the house the whole day! So I get to roam around the village with Mok and him. He is either walking with us or he rides the bike. We do that twice on Sundays: in the morning before breakfast and in the late afternoon. How I wish that bike has a basket big enough so Mok and I can ride with him and feel the wind touch our whiskers as we tread up the hilly part of the village. I imagine how going down the hill would scare me.

The times in between breakfast and late afternoon are spent for sleeping. On the master's bed! Lazy Sundays are the best time for my owner to recover from his daily grind of waking up early and returning late from work. So, we go up. Listen to some soothing music on the iPod dock, purr a lot and fall asleep. Sometimes I dream of riding with him in the bike :-) -- Tyler

Dreams

Hi, I'm Mokmok. I'm Tyler's sister. How I got this weird name for a female cat was up to my owner. I could have refused that name during the time our Momma gave birth to me, but then, my owner just loved the name. And so I have learned  to love myself with that name.
